Their Levees Vs. Our Levees

Mon Feb 27, 2006 at 05:31:56 PM PDT

Have any of you received this email, showing pictures of various levees in Europe? If so, or if this has been diaried before, then I apologize. Otherwise, I thought this interesting.
The email I received showed pictures of levees in Europe vs. a picture of a levee in America (New Orleans?). I cannot verify these pictures. Anyone want to comment on them?

I realize there is not much to this diary, but I wasn't about to post all these pictures in comments.

I managed to find a web site that was nearly identical to the email I got: http://www.commondreams.org/...

Obviously, if this is a fair and accurate representation of "their levees" vs. "our levees," then America is pretty damn pathetic. It wouldn't surprise me if this were all true (I lived in Europe so I know they are more socially/environmentally conscious than we are), but like I said, I really don't know how accurate this all is.

This was the gist of the email:

Here's how the British hold back the waters from flooding London:

And the Dutch solution to protecting an entire nation that mostly rests below sea level:

The Italians are defending their city on the sea, Venice:

And...
Here's how the richest, most powerful and technologically advanced
nation on earth protected against the long-forecasted flooding of New Orleans:
